Optics Society of America picks UP Optics Paper

Optics Society of America picks Univ of the Phils research in optics!

The work of Blanca, Cemine, Buenaobra and Saloma at the University of the Philippines National Institute of Physics (UP-NIP) has been selected by the Optics Society of America (OSA) for its 2006 top research in optics worldwide. Their paper, along with 30 others, were selected from worldwide entries representing 16 countries.

The NIP team's work is a cheaper and better way of detecting defects on microchips, using a special type of inspection technique called High Resolution OFT. Their work has significant applications in the chip industry.

OSA quote:

"This special issue highlights the most exciting research to emerge in the preceding 12 months in the fast paced world of optics. The areas covered in 2006 include array detectors, Bloch oscillations, coherent imaging, diffractive optics, imaging, metamaterials, non linear optics, optical beams, opto-mechanics, polarization, Raman spectroscopy, soft X rays, and ultrafast science."

This work was supported by INTEL Philippines, and the OVPAA and OVCRD grants of the University of the Philippines.
