End:     Aug 5, '06 9:00p
Location:     Bulwagang Amado Hernandez (Conference Room), Upper Ground Floor, CCP Main Building, CCP Complex
Tanghalang Pilipino announces open auditions for the spine-tingling play, BAKERETTA (Ghost Operetta), to be directed by the playwright himself, multi-awarded screenwriter and one of Japan’s most exciting theater directors, Chong Wishing.

Auditions will be held on August 5, 2006, from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM, at the Bulwagang Amado Hernandez (Conference Room), Upper Ground Floor, CCP Main Building, CCP Complex, Roxas Blvd., Pasay City.

The director will be in Manila to personally screen male and female actors ages 18 and up. Auditionees must prepare a 3-minute monologue in Filipino from any published local or foreign play, a movement piece and a song. All interested actors must bring their updated resume with their most flattering colored headshot.

Applicants must be available for the production schedule, with rehearsals running for five weeks prior to the opening on October 20, 2006 at the Sinag Arts Studio and a second run at the Tanghalang Huseng Batute (CCP Studio Theater) from November 10 to 26, 2006.

A co-production with the Japan Foundation and Sinag Arts Studio, Bakeretta is a psychological thriller, somewhat in the tradition of Japanese horror films like Ring and The Grudge, but with a quirky, musical twist! An amateur theater company rehearses a modern ghost (bake) story – The Ghost in the Toilet and the mounting pressures of opening night get mixed up with
their personal dramas, comedies and horrors.

My New Baby

man, i love my mom!

she's sick and all yet she still finds a way to help me out in my direst times.

i've been out of a job since March. Times have been very tough. I barely made it though enrollment and the mounting monthly bills... all thanks to her and some help from my brother and some friends.

For my birthday, she again came through and helped me get my hands on my new toy -- a P2 300 IBM Thinkpad.

Yeah, I know, it's an old notebook but it's got most of what I need. With this baby, I can get by with my free-lance work and be mobile. I had the CD-ROM upgraded into a combo drive, the 6gb HDD into 30 gb. I also got a wifi card, an optical mouse and a USB hub (since my new toy only has one USB port).

It has encountered some problems already for which I harrassed the Open Pinoy tech support. Then I learned i can tinker with it and get results faster, less the hassle of trekking to Greenhills in the Ortigas Ave. traffic through LSGH.

Anyway, I'm just raving about my mom. She's my life-saver.

And I say it again -- man, I love my mom!!!

To pity or not to pity...

Over the weekend, I passed by ortigas Ave. in Greenhills. While stuck in traffic near the Santolan intersection, I saw this young man in his early teens with deformities on all four of his limbs. He was selling Sampaguita garlands. From afar, I thought, "wow, that's very industrious of him, given his physical limitations."

When he got to me, his height reached only just above the lower part of my window. I politely shook my head and waved him to move on.

Now, this part is disturbing.

He looked into the car and looked straight down to my legs. I was wearing walking shorts so half my thighs were showing. Then he licked his lips, looked at me and started leering and making facial expressions as if to tell me what he intended to do with me.

Note, he never offered his garlands again after looking in.

I felt so violated. All pity evaporated. Instead, I felt utter disgust!

I waved him off with a stern expression on my face, but he just went on with what he was doing, occasionally looking down to my legs. So, I just surged the car forward. Thankfully, he went away after that.

He was practically a quadruplegic and he had no manners whatsoever! It was like his physial appearance simply mirrored his disgusting behavior.

In the end, he was a guy afterall, with his lower head working more than the higher one... Why are there too many of those around?
